Two NSERC Discovery Grants for �鶹�� Education Researchers

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has awarded 122 �鶹�� research projects funding from its Discovery Grants competition for a total investment of $30 million. The Discovery Grants program is NSERC's largest and longest-standing program. Discovery Grants support ongoing projects with long-term goals, providing researchers with the flexibility to explore the most promising avenues of research as they emerge.

�鶹�� is once again Canada’s top university, according to the 2027 QS World University Rankings released June 17. Rated 30th in the world among more than 1,500 institutions, �鶹�� remains the highest-ranked university in Canada and the only Canadian institution to hold a place in the QS’ global top 30 for four consecutive years.

Three exceptional scholars at �鶹�� were awarded the 2026 President’s Prize for Outstanding Emerging Researchers at convocation ceremonies held on May 28, May 29 and June 1. The annual prize recognizes early-career researchers who have distinguished themselves by their exceptional contributions to research. Faculty of Education's Prof. Rachel Langevin, was among the three winners.

The Faculty's second valedictorian from the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, Ryan, who has earned his B.Sc. Do lying children grow up to be criminals? Mostly not, study concludes

Most childhood lying does not lead to serious problems in adulthood, and only certain kinds of lying behaviour is associated with later psychological or legal issues, a new study has found.

“Children do not all follow the same developmental pattern of lying,” said Victoria Talwar, a professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology and lead author of the study. “Most children in our study showed low or declining levels of lying over time. For most, lying is not a problem behaviour.”

Four FRQSC New Academics Grants Awarded in the Faculty of Education
