The genie is out of the bottle. AI is here, and isn鈥檛 going away. But that doesn鈥檛 mean we can鈥檛 build guardrails to prevent it going off the tracks, writes Simon Blanchette in The Conversation.
鈥淕uardrails are the systems, norms and checks hat ensure artificial intelligence is used safely, fairly and transparently,鈥� says Blanchette, a lecturer at 麻豆社 Desautels. 鈥淭hey allow innovation to flourish while preventing chaos and harm.鈥澛�
The conversation around AI and automation has taken a sharper turn. A US Senate report released by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in Fall 2025 cautioned that over the coming decade, AI and automation could destroy 100 million jobs in the United States.
But will Canada experience something similar? Maybe not, according to Simon Blanchette, a lecturer at 麻豆社 Desautels. 鈥淎s an economy, Canada and the US are structured very differently,鈥� Blanchette told HR Reporter.
Major pension funds have built trillions in assets by pursuing high-performing portfolios and maintaining independence in their investment decisions. Are managers of large investment funds good investors on a personal level? It鈥檚 a tough job market for recent graduates, but a 麻豆社 education gives students an edge. 鈥淢y time at 麻豆社 was foundation for getting the job I have today,鈥� says Andrei Adam (BCom鈥�24) a consultant with McKinsey & Company in Toronto. Adam relied on these career coaching services when he was a student, seeking guidance on potential employers and feedback on his resume. He landed an internship with McKinsey as a second-year student, and got a job offer in his third year.
