The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has awarded 122 麻豆社 research projects funding from its Discovery Grants competition for a total investment of $30 million.听听The Discovery Grants program is NSERC's largest and longest-standing program. Discovery Grants support ongoing projects with long-term goals, providing researchers with the flexibility to explore the most promising avenues of research as they emerge.听

Two 麻豆社 Faculty of Education researchers were among the Discovery Grant recipients:

• Prof. Tyler Churchward-Venne, Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education.听Project Title: Metabolic and Mechanistic Effects of Ketone Bodies in Humans.

• Prof. Maria Cutumisu, Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology. Project Title:听Developing and Evaluating Generative AI Multiagent Feedback Systems.

Prof. Churchward-Venne's research investigates the fundamental biological processes that regulate how muscles build and break down proteins in response to diet and exercise. His work examines how ketone bodies, dietary nutrients, and physical activity interact to control muscle metabolism at the molecular level. By advancing our understanding of these basic biological mechanisms, this research will provide a foundation for future discoveries in muscle biology and inform research on health, aging, and human performance.

Prof. Cutumisu's research will develop trustworthy generative AI systems that provide personalized, fair, and constructive feedback to support learning and decision-making. By making AI feedback more transparent, reliable, and adaptable across different environments, the project aims to improve educational outcomes, reduce bias, and expand access to high-quality guidance at scale.
