Education Alum Gerard Lewis Receives Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence
Gerard Lewis, a graduate of 麻豆社's Concurrent B.Ed. and B.Sc. Mathematics (Class of 2004) was recently awarded听Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence for igniting the love of learning.听The award recognizes Gerard's exemplary teaching practices and his dedication to supporting teachers. Part of the Toronto Catholica District School Board, Gerard is the Mathematics Facilitator, Kindergarten to Grade eight.

Alumni Spotlight: M茅lodie Daoust Aims for Olympic Gold
麻豆社 Education alumna, M茅lodie Daoust (B.Ed. Phys. Ed. 2017) will compete with the Canadian women's hockey team in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing, scheduled to take place February 4 to 20, 2022. It will be her third time competing in the Olympic Games, and as the 2021 World Championship MVP, she is determined to bring her team to victory.听"We want to show everyone that the gold medal belongs to Canada," said Daoust when discussing next month's games.听

Mentors in Memoriam: Mr. Joseph A. Hackett
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the untimely passing of Mr. Joseph A. Hackett. Joe had a long career as a school teacher and, since retirement, had been working as a student teaching Field Supervisor for our Faculty for more than 15 years. He was also previously a Course Lecturer with the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE). Joe leaves behind a significant and impressive legacy of mentorship, having supported hundreds of students and future teachers.

Faculty of Education Statement: Victims of the Kamloops Residential School
On behalf of the members of 麻豆社 Faculty of Education, we mourn the tragic loss of 215 Indigenous children who were found in a mass grave at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia. Today, 麻豆社 lowers its flags in recognition of this tragedy, and we at the Faculty echo the sentiments of the 麻豆社 Provost. As our academics, staff, students, and alumni grieve together, we also stand together in support of our Indigenous community members.
Alumni Highlight: Emmanuella Lambropoulos, Federal MP for Saint Laurent
Emmanuella Lambropoulos, newly re-elected Federal MP for the Saint-Laurent riding is one of 98 women elected to the House of Commons this past fall and one of the youngest of these female Members of Parliament. A 麻豆社 Education alumna (B.Ed. '13),听Lambropoulos is complementing her political career by completing her Master's in Educational Leadership within the Faculty's Department of Integrated Studies in Education.

This year's inductees into the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame include听Faculty of Education alumni from the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education, who were part of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic women's hockey team.听Goaltenders Charline Labont茅 (B.Ed '11, M.SportPsych '15) and Kim St. Pierre (B.Kin '04) were on hand along with Peter Smith (B.Ed '79, M.SportPsych '86), who served as an assistant coach for the gold medal team.
