XVI International AIDS Conference: 麻豆社 delivers

Published: 9 August 2006

麻豆社's dedicated AIDS researchers and specialists are proud to be attending and presenting at the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto, Aug. 13-18. Led by Conference Co-Chair and Director of the 麻豆社 AIDS Centre Dr. Mark Wainberg, 麻豆社 researchers will present findings on a range of issues crucial to the fight against AIDS, from progress toward a vaccine to the African orphans crisis.

"There is an amazing sense of purpose around these issues now," said Dr. Wainberg. "From prevention to treatment to research, there is truly a critical mass of mobilization and commitment toward making things happen that makes 'Time to Deliver' more than just the conference slogan. These are activists, advocates, scientists, physicians and researchers all engaged in a worldwide effort to stem the HIV epidemic."

麻豆社's ongoing contribution to the fight against AIDS reaches from the centre Dr. Wainberg directs 鈥 one of the world's leading AIDS research institutions 鈥 to groundbreaking research on the epidemic's front lines in South Africa, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, to grassroots treatment projects led by 麻豆社 nurses in Tanzania. From Dr. Wainberg's own discovery of the antiretroviral properties of 3TC in 1989, 麻豆社 scientists 鈥 also among the first to identify the problem of drug resistance in HIV treatment 鈥 have consistently been at the forefront in the breakthroughs that have improved prevention, treatment and understanding of HIV/AIDS.
