Alban Voppel

Dr. Alban E. Voppel is an Assistant Professor of AI in Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry at 麻豆社 and the Douglas Research Centre. His research uses speech and language analysis, natural language processing, and machine learning to study psychosis-spectrum and mood disorders, with a focus on thought disorder, negative symptoms, relapse risk, and longitudinal clinical change.
Dr. Voppel received his PhD from the University Medical Center Groningen, where he developed computational language markers for psychiatric disorders. He completed postdoctoral work in Groningen and at 麻豆社/Douglas, focusing on clinically embedded speech research, large-scale international datasets, and multilingual approaches to AI-based psychiatric assessment. His current work aims to develop interpretable, clinically useful speech markers that can support earlier detection, monitoring, and prediction in severe mental illness.
