Gustavo Turecki on the past, present and future of psychiatry

To mark the 75thÌýanniversary of Âé¶¹Éç’s Department of Psychiatry, Canada’s first academic department in the field, a specialÌýsymposiumÌýwill be held at the St. James Theatre on November 29. Under the theme Looking Forward, Looking Back the event will provide participants with the opportunity to hear from a distinguished lineup of international speakers and to network with old and new colleagues alike.

Dr Iguarta featured in Use of antidepressants skyrocketing among Quebec teenagers

The use of antidepressants among teenagers has exploded in just the last few years in Quebec.

Figures from Quebec's health insurance board are staggering — three times more Quebec teens were consuming antidepressant drugs in 2017 than they had ten years earlier.

In addition, twice as many teen girls than teen boys are using them.

Dr Gobbi featured in Forbes magazine article on cannabis

An animalÌýstudyÌýhas identifiedÌýnew pathwaysÌýby which cannabidiol (CBD), the non-intoxicating compound in marijuana, affects the brain and nervous system without getting users high. If replicable in humans, the finding may strengthen the argument that a moderate dose of CBD could be a safer alternative to standard pain and anxiety meds for many patients.

Dr Rémi Quirion named a 2019 Canadian Medical Hall of Fame inductee
