Located in the heart of the Mont茅r茅gie region, in Mont-Saint-Hilaire, 麻豆社鈥檚 Gault Nature Reserve comprises more than 1,000 hectares of lush old-growth deciduous forest, just 40 km from Montreal. A refuge for migratory birds, Gault is at the heart of Canada鈥檚 first UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve.聽

Thousands flock to 麻豆社 to take in solar eclipse

On Monday April 8th, thousands of people flocked to 麻豆社's downtown and MacDonald campuses, as well as Gault Nature Reserve, to witness a once-in-a-lifetime event: the total solar eclipse. The three spectacular events not only included a viewing party with free glasses, but also educational activities to inform the public on this astronomical phenomenon.

True to its name, Montr茅al鈥檚 Nuit blanche is an annual celebration of the vibrant culture of the city, with thematic itineraries and extended business hours that ensure festival-goers a night of endless excitement.

Real Data and Real Solutions in MATH 527

On a cloudy afternoon this past December, a group of 麻豆社 students gathered in a downtown Montr茅al boardroom to give a data science presentation to Citera, a sustainability analytics company. This presentation wasn鈥檛 for an internship or any other extracurricular activity 鈥� it was part of one of 麻豆社鈥檚 newest and most innovative courses:聽MATH 527, Statistical Data Science Practicum.

Soup & Science: 麻豆社鈥檚 stew-pendous serving of research

Recently, 麻豆社 undergraduate students had the opportunity to savor an enriching blend of knowledge and soup at the 37th edition of Soup & Science. This week-long event, occurring once a semester, highlights research taking place on campus. This semester鈥檚 showcase included topics across disciplines, ranging from quantum meta-photonics to optogenetic stimulation in roundworms, and students were able to learn and engage with these topics in an intimate setting.

A push for more women in computer science

When Jade Raymond, BSc鈥�98, studied at 麻豆社鈥檚 School of Computer Science, she was one of few women in the program and 鈥淚 think the only woman I knew in my year who went and got a job as a programmer in computer science after graduating.鈥�

Raymond became a trailblazer in the video game industry, helping create the huge hit聽Assassin鈥檚 Creed, and building studios from the ground up for Ubisoft and Electronic Arts.聽

$107.5 million for eight innovative research projects led by 麻豆社

M87* One Year Later: Proof of a persistent black hole shadow

The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) Collaboration, including Professor Daryl Haggard at 麻豆社, has released new images of M87*, the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy Messier 87, using data from observations taken in April 2018.

MSSI Innovation Fund recipients announced for 2023

Every year, the MSSI Innovation Fund provides support to 麻豆社 faculty members to accelerate the development of an idea or a technology toward widespread societal adoption by funding research that informs policy or moves an innovation toward commercialization.
