Unwind is a new event series developed by the D2R Trainee Committee that brings together the D2R trainee community each semester to connect, share research, and collaborate in a relaxed and supportive environment. Each event features trainee research presentations, interactive discussion, and networking opportunities. Join us for our first Unwind event onAugust 28, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:30 pm on the 15th floor of 1010 Sherbrooke Street West.Refreshments will be provided.

  • D2R x Front Row Ventures | Starting Your Own Company: The Student Founder Perspective: Have an innovative idea and interested in learning how you can start a company while still being a student? Join D2R and to hear from the student founders of two companies, Nanofacile and MendAI, to learn how they achieved they developed their big idea and secured investment to start their own companies.
  • Lunch and Learn with CASTL: In this presentation, D2R and CASTL will connect the world of research with industrial applications! This Lunch and Learn will provide a practical way introduce participants to how mRNA-LNP based biotherapeutics are manufactured, and showcase opportunities and career pathways in the biomanufacturing sector.
  • Introduction to Applying Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Genomic-Based RNA Therapeutics Research: Alearning opportunity to gain foundational knowledge and practical tools to embed Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) into your genomic-based RNA therapeutics research.Through engaging discussions and activities, participants will explore key EDI definitions, examine both opportunities and challenges in the field, and learn best practices for inclusive research design.
  • Demystifying Data Science: This is a 2-hour introductory training on how data science powers modern genomics and RNA research within D2R. After a brief overview of what “data science” really means in our context led by , D2R's Data Science Director.
  • D2R X NRC Biomanufacturing Collaboration Event:A half day showcase ofD2Rand the’s shared biomanufacturing and bioengineering research priorities. Researchers from both the NRC and the D2R community will present on their platform and biomanufacturing-aligned work, including gene editing, mRNA production and optimization, lipid nanoparticle formulation, and RNA therapeutic delivery systems.
  • D2R X Norton Rose Fulbright | Protecting Your Ideas: A Guide for Innovators: This presentation demystifies intellectual property (IP) and shows why it matters far more than many founders think. We’ll explore briefly the different forms of IP and clarify what each protects in practical terms. You’ll discover when an idea becomes an “invention,” when you should consider filing a patent, and who the right professionals are to guide you along the way.
  • D2R x Lavery | Patenting Your Invention: A Guide for Researchers:Intellectual property and in particular patents remain a cornerstone of innovation and commercialization in the life sciences. This session offers a practical overview of the patent system, tailored to the realities of research and development in academic and start-up environments in the life sciences.
