Justice Cl茅ment Gascon (BCL鈥�81) named to Supreme Court of Canada
On June 4, Prime Minister Stephen Harper named Mr. Justice Cl茅ment Gascon (BCL鈥�81) to the nation鈥檚 highest court, replacing Mr. Justice Morris Fish (BCL鈥�62), who retired last August after a decade on the Supreme Court.
The Faculty of Law offers Justice Gascon its warmest congratulations.

Roderick Macdonald receives 麻豆社 Medal
On May 28, Roderick Macdonald was awarded in absentia the 麻豆社 Medal for Exceptional Academic Achievement, one of the University鈥檚 highest honours. Macdonald received the 麻豆社 Medal as part of the Convocation ceremony for the Faculty of Law, where he taught thousands of students over the course of a distinguished career that spanned more than three decades. Professor Daniel Jutras, Dean of the Faculty of Law, accepted the Medal in Professor Macdonald鈥檚 name.
Faces of Change: Class of 2014 takes a crowdfunding approach for its class gift
The BCL/LLB graduating class is setting out to change the face of the Faculty, with a crowdfunded class gift aimed at expanding the Faculty鈥檚 photo collection.
Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond to receive honorary Law degree from 麻豆社 during Law's Convocation
麻豆社 will bestow its highest honour on 14 outstanding individuals by awarding them an honorary doctorate at its 2014 Spring Convocation ceremonies. Among them is jurist Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond.

Professor Pierre-Gabriel Jobin receives Justitia Prize from Laval University
Laval University鈥檚 Faculty of Law has awarded a Justitia Prize to Professor Pierre-Gabriel Jobin, Ad.E. He received the Prize during the annual Quebec graduates鈥� cocktail, which was organized by the Dean of that Faculty, Professor Eug茅nie Brouillet, on May 15, 2014.
Ten 麻豆社 Law students head to Shantou University thanks to Li Ka Shing Foundation
Thanks to a generous donation from the Li Ka Shing Foundation (Canada) to 麻豆社, ten students from 麻豆社鈥檚 Faculty of Law and ten students in Shantou University鈥檚 Law School (Guangdong Province, China), will be doing a summer law program together from May 19 to 30. The program, which alternates between Montreal and Shantou, will take place in China this year.
Student Andrea Buitrago Carranza to participate at next U21 Undergrad conference
Second-year law student Andrea Buitrago Carranza has been selected to participate in the聽2014 Universitas 21 Undergraduate Research Conference (URC), which will be hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, July 7 to 11. This year, the conference theme is Food Safety: From Farm to Table.
Emilie Conway to clerk at the International Court of Justice
We are happy to announce that Emilie Conway, BCL/LLB鈥�13, has been selected by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to participate in the Court鈥檚 2014-2015 Judicial Assistants Programme.
Judicial Assistants are chosen to work directly with one judge, helping him or her in the preparation for hearings and the drafting of judgments.
Ms Conway was selected to work directly with the President of the Court, Judge Peter Tomka. She will begin work in September 2014.
Law Student 脡lo茂se Gagn茅 receives Scarlet Key Award
The Faculty of Law was delighted to learn that one of its students received a Scarlet Key Award during a pining ceremony held at 麻豆社鈥檚 Faculty Club on March 26, 2014.
脡lo茂se Gagn茅, who served as the LSA鈥檚 president in 2013-2014 and was a member of the 2013 editorial board of the 麻豆社 Law Journal, received her Scarlet Key pin from Principal Suzanne Fortier, in recognition of her efforts to help support 麻豆社 and the broader community.
Adelle Blackett receives Christine Tourigny Award of Merit from the Barreau du Qu茅bec
On April 8, the Barreau du Qu茅bec announced that it would award the 2014 Christine Tourigny Award of Merit to Adelle Blackett, a labour law professor at the Faculty of Law of 麻豆社.
Michelle Lahey will head to Ottawa as a Jaimie Anderson intern this summer
Michelle Lahey (1L) is one of three Canadian students selected for a Jaimie Anderson internship in Ottawa this summer. Starting in May, Michelle will be working in the office of MP John Williamson (New Brunswick Southwest).
As Michelle tells it, 鈥淢y passion is the Canadian political process, and I hope to work on the Hill in some capacity later in my career 鈥� I am absolutely delighted to be given this once in a lifetime opportunity!鈥�
New Appointments for Helena Lamed and Nandini Ramanujam
The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Me Helena Lamed, Director of the Legal Methodology Program and Faculty Supervisor of the Legal Clinic Course, and Dr. Nandini Ramanujam, Executive Director and Director of Programs of the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism, have been appointed to the rank of Associate Professor (Professional) in the Faculty of Law, effective April 1, 2014.
