Founded by the late Right Honourable Lord Atholstan, to commemorate the "splendid services of Dr. Charles E. Moyse, for forty-two years Professor of English, during sixteen of which he was Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Vice-Principal of the University." Two scholarships, tenable for one year, are to be awarded. One scholarship will be awarded for distinction by the Faculty of Arts and the other for distinction by the Faculty of Science. The values for each Faculty will be approximately $10,000.

Eligibility is limited to B.Sc. students graduating in Winter 2027 and directly entering graduate studies in Fall 2027. Individuals who completed their undergraduate degree prior to Winter 2027 are not eligible, as gap years between undergraduate and graduate study are not permitted.

Recipients must devote the one year of tenure to advanced study, preferably in a British or European university, but not to the exclusion of other institutions approved by the Faculty of Science.

Past Moyse Travelling Scholarship winners have attended universities in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and beyond. Here are a few recent examples:

A complete application will include:

1. Application Form听(forthcoming). This听form will require:
   • Personal information (name, student ID, 麻豆社 email, degree/major,听expected graduation date)
   • Contact information for your referees听(name, email)
   • Information on your intended graduate studies (institution, degree, application and acceptance status, supervisor name)听
   • Statement of Proposed Course of Study: A detailed and comprehensive statement of interest in which you describe your academic interests, the program of study you intend to pursue, your motivation for choosing this program, and outline your plans for career. If any, please indicate publications relevant to your field of study. Maximum 1000 words.
2. Two Letters of Recommendation from referees who are familiar with the applicant's work (sent by the referee electronically to ac.science [at] mcgill.ca (AC Science). Letters should be sent in PDF format).
3. Please note that the selection committee will review applicant's听unofficial 麻豆社 transcript which does not need be sent when applying.

Shortlisted candidates will be contacting for virtual interviews (via Zoom) in early May 2027.听We thank all applicants for their interest, however only shortlisted applicants will be contacted for interviews.听Students should only apply if they will be available for interviews in early May.听

The winner of the Moyse Traveling Scholarship will be informed after the results of the final examinations in the final year of the undergraduate degree.

If there is no winner in one of these faculties, both scholarships may be awarded to applicants in the other faculty. Although this is highly unlikely, in the absence of applicants of sufficient merit in either of the faculties, applications from final year students in other undergraduate faculties, or from graduate students may be considered.
