The Faculty of Science is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Adrian Liu as Associate Dean, Graduate聽Education聽and Equity.听聽

He聽began his five-year term on July 15,聽succeeding聽Biology Professor Laura Nilson in this role following 丑别谤听谤别肠别苍迟听补辫辫辞颈苍迟尘别苍迟 as Chair of the Department of Biology.听

鈥淚 am pleased to welcome Professor Liu as our new Associate Dean, Graduate Education and Equity,鈥� said Alanna Watt, Dean of the Faculty of Science. 鈥淗is leadership, commitment to student success, and dedication to equity and inclusion make him an outstanding choice for this role.鈥澛�

A聽William Dawson Scholar and聽Associate Professor聽in the Department聽of Physics and the Trottier Space Institute,聽Liu conducts large surveys of the聽Universe across space and time聽using datasets from聽21cm聽cosmology to expand our understanding of how the first stars and galaxies formed and evolved.听聽

Since joining聽麻豆社 in 2018, Liu has聽received聽numerous聽accolades for his teaching and research. In 2020, he was named a Sloan Research Fellow and became the youngest recipient of the Department of Physics鈥� John David Jackson Teaching Award.听In 2024, he was awarded聽麻豆社鈥檚 highest university-wide teaching聽honour, .听Earlier this year, he聽received the 2026 Canadian Association of Physics (CAP) Medal for Excellence in Teaching Undergraduate Physics.听

Beyond his contributions as a researcher and educator, Liu brings years of experience in supervising and mentoring graduate students to his new role as Associate Dean, Graduate聽Education聽and Equity.听

This past May, he received the Carrie M. Derick Award for Graduate Supervision and Teaching from the Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies聽in聽recognition of his outstanding commitment to graduate student success.听He has also been a leader in advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives,聽having led聽the Department of Physics鈥� first climate survey,聽establishing聽a graduate teaching award, and serving on the Faculty of Science鈥檚 Equity and Climate Committee.听
