Post-Graduate Medical Education

Trainees are registered as Medical Residents, Sponsored Medical Residents or Medical Fellows.

Medical Residents: Residents are registered between1 to 52 weeks per academic year (July 1st through June 30th). Residents have an agreement with RAMQ whereby the University will bill RAMQ for the tuition and fees in excess of a set amount. The set amount is $1100 in 2026-27 for Residents in 52 weeks, and pro-rated for less weeks. The amount will be $1300 in 2027-28. The amount expected to be paid by RAMQ appears on the ebill as a pre-authorized contract memo until we have billed RAMQ (usually in October). At which time a payment from RAMQ will be posted to the fee account. For residents whose start date is prior to mid-October, the due date for fees less the RAMQ pre-authorized contract memo amount is the end of October.

Fellows or Sponsored Medical Residents: The PGME Office will advise Student Accounts of all trainees who are sponsored by an external agency or foreign government. The billing of tuition and fees will be transferred to the sponsor. If a trainee receives a bill with a balance owing and expects that the sponsor should be covering the balance, please contact the PGME Office to inquire. Trainees not sponsored are expected to pay their fees as billed (first bill issued in August and due at the end of August).

Tuition rates for PGME programs are set by the government for Quebec and Canadian trainees, whereas the University sets the rate for International trainees who are not funded through RAMQ.
