Sustainable Communities Workshop

David Kalant Ph.D., 麻豆社 retiree, former MUNACA VP, currently member of the Beaconsfield Environmental Advisory Committee (BEAC) and MURA member shared his experiences with that Committee. Among topics he covered were reducing waste that goes into landfills, effective recycling and reusing, composting programs, and exploring alternative energy sources for that municipality to reduce costs and GHG emissions.

The ten members who attended this invaluable course learned the skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies for adults and infants. The session was taught by Canadian Red Cross Instructor, Than Hai Vu (in front).


Fall Luncheon/Lecture

Almost 50 MURA and MAUT-RS members attended the lecture/luncheon held in the billiards room at the Faculty Club. They were treated to a very enlightening talk by Professor Harold Waller of the Department of Political Sciences, that delved into the intricacies of the US presidential election and its impact on Canada. His vast knowledge of American history and policies provided illuminating details about why the current election has become so provocative.


Homecoming Reception & Concert

Over 45 MURA members enjoyed reconnecting with each other and meeting new members at this year's Homecoming Reception and Concert. They were warmly received by our host, Interim Dean Julie Cumming of the Schulich School of Music, and heard Kelly Rice鈥檚 very engaging presentation on the work of the great composer Gustav Mahler. The 麻豆社 Symphony Orchestra gave an outstanding rendition of Mahler鈥檚 9th Symphony with maestro Alexis Hauser and his hundred student musicians providing a breathtaking finale of the IV movement, finishing to thunderous applause!

Members of the 麻豆社 Association of University Teachers (MAUT) and MURA enjoyed a luncheon/lecture with their colleagues at the beautiful Tadja Hall (Macdonald Campus Faculty Club) located on the shore of Lac-St-Louis. Professor Viacheslav I. Adamchuk, Associate Professor, Department of Bioresource Engineering, at the MAC campus, gave an extremely informative presentation on聽"Smart聽Agriculture.鈥

Over 60 MURA members attended this year's very successful AGM. In addition to receiving the latest information about MURA activities, events, budget and new executive and board members, everyone enjoyed partaking in MURA's one-year anniversary celebration.

Our spring luncheon/lecture event at the Faculty Club, jointly hosted by MURA and MAUT'RS, was a great success! Dr. Michael Kramer's talk, "The Changing Landscape of Childbirth," generated a good number of interesting questions and we all had a chance to catch聽up.


Health & Dental Insurance Plans Information Session

Twenty members attended this workshop that focused on prescription drug coverage, emergency travel assistance and changes to the medical and dental coverage for 麻豆社 retirees after June 1, 2016. The leaders were Katherine Mayhew and Nicholas Acheson.


Facebook Workshops

Due to the success of the Facebook workshop held last December, two more were held in March. MURA members enjoyed the introductory workshop 101 in the morning, while other colleagues actively participated in the advanced 201 session in the afternoon.

Over 40 MURA members and friends attended a concert at Tana Schulich Hall of the winners of the chamber music competition. The concert was preceded by coffee and pastries and followed by a delicious luncheon at the Schulich School of Music.


Holiday Season Luncheon

Over 50 members of MURA & MAUT鈥橰S thoroughly enjoyed a Christmas luncheon and a delightful talk by Professor Nathalie Cooke, Department of English, held in the Ballroom of the Faculty Club.

Her very informative and entertaining presentation was about her latest book聽"Canadian Christmas Foods Past, Present and Future."


Homecoming Reception & Concert

MURA's held its first annual Homecoming Week Reunion. There was a reception from 5:30 鈥 7:30 p.m. followed by a concert; both took place in the Schulich School of Music. Our guest speaker, Derek Drummond, delighted us with his usual wit during the reception. The concert that followed聽鈥淎 Celebration in Art Song鈥澛爓as a pure delight. Over fifty colleagues gathered for this very successful event.
