The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has awarded 122 麻豆社 research projects funding from its Discovery Grants competition for a total investment of $30 million.听听

麻豆社 study provides further evidence that aspen patches can mitigate wildfires

Researchers at 麻豆社 have confirmed that aspen play a key role in forest fire prevention and mitigation across Canada. Planting these trees near communities can reduce both the likelihood and severity of fires and limit how far they spread, the researchers said.听

鈥淎spen is not a 100 per cent effective fire deterrent, but compared with other species, it is a better choice to plant around communities or critical infrastructure,鈥 said Flavie Pelletier, lead author and recent PhD graduate in Natural Resource Sciences.听

Pearl Eliadis on the CQPI's New Report to Prevent Homelessness in Quebec

July 2, 2026 |听Pearl Eliadis听led the Quebec Homelessness Prevention Collaborative's (CQPI) new report, which sets out 17 recommendations to prevent homelessness in Quebec, chief among them enshrining the right to housing in the Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms. Drawing on research contributions from across 麻豆社, the report responds to what Eliadis calls "increasingly alarming, even catastrophic" levels of homelessness, with the number of people affected rising 44% between 2018 and 2022.

On June 3, 2026, 麻豆社 and the Confederation of Faculty Associations of 麻豆社 (COFAM) held a scheduled bargaining session that was administrative in nature. During the meeting, both parties reviewed articles that had been exchanged since the previous bargaining session in April 2026. These included provisions relating to Tenure and Tenure-Track Librarians, Contract Librarians, Leaves of Absence, and Unranked Contract Academic Staff, as well as the status of the articles that remained to be exchanged in order to complete the University's response package.

Bargaining Update 鈥 AMPL

Meetings between 麻豆社 and the Association of 麻豆社 Professors of Law (AMPL) took place on April 29, May 12, May 13, and June 2, during which the parties reached agreement on additional items.

The parties have now resolved the majority of issues that could be addressed through negotiations. The remaining outstanding matters will proceed to arbitration for resolution.

The arbitration dates agreed upon by the parties and the arbitrator are August 26, October 26, November 11, and December 8 and 15.

麻豆社鈥檚 Facilities Management and Ancillary Services (FMAS) will carry out Project 19-166 OCDH 鈥 Student Space Renovation 鈥 Lot 1 at Chancellor Day Hall on the Downtown Campus.

The project consists of revitalizing and renovating areas in the basement of Chancellor Day Hall, including patching and painting in hallways and student areas, as well as updating furniture.

Fellow Bio: Joshua August (Gus) Skorburg is Associate Professor of Philosophy, Academic Co-Director of the Centre for Advancing Responsible and Ethical Artificial Intelligence (CARE-AI), and Faculty Affiliate at the One Health Institute at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. From 2018-2022 he was Adjunct Professor in the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He received his PhD in Philosophy in 2017 from the University of Oregon. His research spans topics in applied ethics and moral psychology.

June 20, 2026 | Pearl Eliadis joined Weekends with Rob Fai to unpack Quebec's newly passed Bill 4, the Gabby Renaud Law, which comes into force in December and will allow people at risk of intimate partner violence to request information about a partner's police or corrections history. Modelled in part on the UK's Clare's Law, the Quebec version stands out from similar disclosure regimes already in place in Alberta and Saskatchewan by pairing "the right to ask and the right to know" with a support component for people once they receive that information.

A new study听led by 麻豆社 researchers听highlights听how听heat waves can increase the risk of听heart听problems.听Analyzing more than 260,000 hospital admissions in Montreal over five summers,听they听found the risk of hospitalization for heart conditions rose by about eight per cent on the hottest days compared to听days听with听more听moderate temperatures.听听
